PHILOSOPHY

A necessary consequence for the growth in both academic workforce and stock of necessary facilities and infrastructure, was the establishment of the Postgraduate School for the purpose of developing the culture of research and more importantly, training a high caliber academic and professional personnel, in the all-important enterprise of human capacity building. The Postgraduate School, Niger Delta University (hereinafter referred to as the School) was established by the Senate on May 8, 2008. Professor Obaro Ikime was the pioneer Dean.

OBJECTIVE

The Broad Objectives of the School are:

  1. Provide the opportunity for Niger Delta graduates and graduates from similar institutions to continue the quest for knowledge across the Faculties.
  2. Realize the vision of the School through innovative and creative research.
  3. Maintain at all times, the tradition of excellence through the quality of our research by instilling in our students the exceptional values of independent work nourished by collaboration and team spirit.
  4. Guarantee the highest standards in teaching and research by periodic review of the programmes.
  5. Equip our students for service at the highest possible level in the University, government and private sector through depth of knowledge and relevance of research.
  6. Encourage the discovery and the dissemination of new knowledge and create new use for old knowledge.

General Requirements

To be considered for admission into the Post Graduate degree programme, candidates should

1. Have five credit pass in not more than two sittings in any of the following examinations;

  • General Certificate of Education (GCE) Ordinary Level Examination
  • West African School Certificate Examination (WASCE),
  • National Examination Council (NECO),
  • National Business and Technical Examination Board (NABTEB) or their equivalents

2. Meet the various departmental registration requirements

PGD a) A candidate with at least 3rd Class Honours Bachelors Degree in the relevant field from an approved University.
b)  HND holders with a minimum of credit level pass from recognised institutions.

Full-time PGD shall run for a minimum of 2 semesters and a maximum of 4 semesters.

Part-time PGD shall run for a minimum of 4 semesters and a maximum of 6 semesters.

M.A/M.Eng./M.Sc
a)  Candidates with at least 2nd Class Honours (Lower Division) Bachelors' Degree from a recognised University.
b)  Candidates with a PGD at credit level pass.
Minimum of 4 semesters and a maximum of 6 semesters.

Ph.D a)  Candidates with at least a Bachelors (Hons) degree from a recognised University with a minimum of 2nd Class Honours (Lower Division) in the relevant discipline.
b).  Possess Masters degree with a CGPA of at least 3.50 on a
5.00 point scale.
Minimum of 6 semesters and a maximum of 10
semesters.
