PHILOSOPHY

The philosophy of the Department of Library and Information Science in Niger Delta University is to Produce competent Library and Information science graduates who can effectively render Library and Information services at all level of education and be gainfully employed in the public and private sectors. The programme ,Library and Information Science, will be a Department of its own under the faculty of Education.

OBJECTIVES

The main Obectives of the Depatment are to :

Produce Graduates Librarians who posses sound and professional training in librarianship.

Train Graduates Librarians in area of E-libraries, which is a basic need of Private and Public sectors, Research Centres and all level of schools in this current information Age.

Equip the Graduates of the programme with relevant knowledge, Skills and Techniques to be able disseminate Information to users, using a variety of ICT facilities and other related Technological devices.

Produce Graduates Librarians that will meet the new challenges of Information and Explosion in any changing situation.

Produce Graduates Librarians who will be able to manage all Types of libraries archival and Documentation centre and Information centres in Nigeria.
Equip Graduates Librarians with both intellectual skills to enable them function effectively in the society.
Train Graduates Librarians who are conscious of the Social, Cultural, Political, Scientific and Technological progress of the Country.

The Department of Library and Information Science will offer courses leading to the award of Bachelor in Library and Information Science (BLIS) Degree in library and Information Science.
