Department of Electrical/Electronic Engineering

PHILOSOPHY

The five year Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) programme aims to provide students with knowledge of the fundamentals of electrical and electronics engineering and includes modules on mathematics, power engineering, electrical drives and machines, high voltage and switch gears, transmission and distribution of electrical power, computer engineering, logic, analogue and digital electronics, extensive selection of courses in software engineering, communications and electronic devices among others.

PROGRAMME EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES (PEOs)

The Bachelor of Engineering degree (B.Eng) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering program in line with the vision and mission of the Niger Delta University is majorly to produce Modern High-Tech Electrical and Electronic Engineers for national development and provision of enabling environment for scientific and engineering knowledge in solving rising challenges of our developing economy.

Therefore, the developed Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs) for Niger Delta University (NDU) Electrical and Electronic Engineering Program are as follows:

  1. Provision of quality undergraduate education programme for students admitted into the Electrical and Electronic engineering programme.
  2. Advancement of scientific knowledge through basic and applied research methods in the academia, production/manufacturing industries, energy sectors and other engineering relating multinationals.
  3.  Development of problem solving approaches using analytical abilities, design and fabrication skills, proper understanding of practical construction and simulation of electrical systems, either as individual or in a team.
  4. To understand the different use, operations, maintenance and design of engineering Electrical and Electronic Systems.

PROGRAMME OUTCOMES (POs)

The Programme Outcomes (POs) are set goals to be achieved by the students upon graduation from Niger Delta University Electrical and Electronic Engineering Programme.

Therefore, on completion and graduation from the programme, the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Graduates are expected to exhibits the following POs. They are:-

  1. The proficiency in the application of basic science and engineering knowledge for the purpose of obtaining solutions to a multi-disciplinary problem.
  2. Knowledge development of understanding and analyzing complex engineering problem.
  3. The capability of designing engineering systems, components, parts, etc for solving the needs and challenges of engineering with respect to environmental issues such as public health, environmental hazards, etc.
  4. Carry out research based investigation in solving complex engineering problems by means research tools such as experimentations/practical based investigations, analytical/numerical methods, simulation/software based research and the use of engineering, MATLAB/Simulink software, Etap, CAD system.
  5. The capability of using modernized technology such as ICT based tools, modelling approaches, optimization methods and other new innovations.
  6. The creation of awareness of an engineer and its society. The Electrical and Electronic engineering graduates’ exhibits understanding of societal and environmental issues (health, legal, safety, cultural, etc.) and consequent responsibilities relevant to professional engineering practice.
  7. The ability of maintaining sustainability and commitment to professional ethics, economic, environmental, societal, and political norms.
  8. The ability to possess individual and team work in either at the industry or at any point of engineering services.
  9. The capability of self confidence in effective communication skills, and solving engineering problems.
  10. The exhibition of financial consciousness and confidence of carrying out professional activities such as project management and other multi – disciplinary activities in engineering.
  11. Recognize the need for continuous learning and self-preparation for professional career activities.
  12. Be self-proficient in innovative creation and techno-industrial driven ideas.
